The University of Arizona About
  Jobs @ UApresents

UApresents relies on students to work with touring companies during the load in of shows, to make transactions at the box office, to pick up artists from the airport, to serve refreshments and to seat the 2,456 guests that enter the theatre on a nightly basis. Quite often it is our student staff who represent the initial image of our organization as they welcome our artists and guests. Because of this responsibility, management’s expectations of our student staff continuously focus on exerting the highest standards of work ethics.

We encourage you to read all the job descriptions and then determine which position interests you the most. No experience is necessary for any position, but we expect you review the information on this page so that you are clear about expectations.

All students, new or returning, must be available to attend orientation. If you cannot attend or do not complete the orientation process, you will not be considered for employment with UApresents this season.

ARTIST RELATIONS: Do anything from buying cases of water at the bulk food store to picking up artists from the airport (sometimes at 5am!). While the schedule and tasks vary a great deal and are not consistent, the work sometimes affords the student to meet the artist or witness “behind the scenes” action. AR students must be willing and trained (provided) to drive a 15-passenger van.

BOX OFFICE: Looking for fun, outgoing, friendly students with excellent communication skills and able to work in a team environment with a focus on excellent customer service for ticket sales over the phone and in person.

PARKING & SECURITY: Come to the performance 2 ˝ hours before curtain time and leave either 1/2 hour after show start (parking) or 1 hour after show end (security). They monitor parking and backstage areas, as well as maintain the safety of patrons and performers. As with ushers, students sign up for performances when they’re available and are scheduled based on that information.

STAGEHANDS: Student Stagehands are supervised by UApresents Production Staff and work directly with the accomplished members of a variety of touring companies during load in, rehearsals, and finally the execution of live productions.  They are provided the opportunities to learn all aspects of theater, i.e. general stage, lighting, sound, carpentry, props, wardrobe and how they pertain to events at our venue.  Student Stagehands are asked to address the periodic maintenance/repair of equipment and our facility. Finally, Student Stagehands learn, practice and uphold personal and departmental safety protocols. Applicants must be extremely reliable, and have a professional and friendly demeanor.  Interest in the arts is always a plus. Must be able to lift and carry 25-40 pounds. Applicants must be currently enrolled as a student at the University of Arizona.

USHERS: Come to the performance space 1½ hours prior to curtain time and stay until about an hour after the performance is over. Students sign up for performances when they’re available and are scheduled based on that information. Although we encourage our ushers to view a performance they are assigned to work, this is not always possible given their duties and/or unforeseen circumstances. Most assignments are at Centennial Hall, but some are in other University buildings or off campus.
