Ramsey Lewis & Patti Austin
Friday, March 26, 2010, 8pm
UA Centennial Hall
Program Update: Dave Brubeck, who was to appear with Ramsey Lewis, is unable to perform due to health complications.
Grammy Award-winner Patti Austin replaces Brubeck and will perform alongside Ramsey Lewis. Debuting at the Apollo Theater at age four and signed to RCA Records at age five, Austin is known for her duets with James Ingram, “Baby Come to Me” and “How Do You Keep the Music Playing.” Austin and Lewis, friends for many years, routinely perform together. Austin will perform songs from her Grammy®-winning Best Jazz Vocal Album, Avant Gershwin, in addition to other songs from her repertoire. The New York Times says her voice is “strong and flexible, with a velvety texture and immaculately rounded tones complemented by impeccable enunciation.” Current ticket holders do not need to take any action, they simply need to hold on to their tickets. The date and time of the performance have not changed. For any further questions, please contact the UApresents Box Office at (520) 621-3341.
Two legends in one remarkable evening of great jazz. Pianist and composer Ramsey Lewis is an American jazz icon. Recipient of seven gold records and winner of three Grammy Awards, he has ranked among the world’s great jazz pianists for more than 40 years, regularly topping the charts with classics such as “The In Crowd.” In 2007, the National Endowment for the Arts awarded him the prestigious title of Jazz Master.
